Australian aircraft cabin announcements

Australian airline attendants make an effort to make the in-flight 'safety lecture' and their other announcements a bit more entertaining. Here are some real examples that have been heard or reported:

On an Air NZ Flight with a very 'senior' flight attendant crew, the Pilot said, 'Ladies and gentlemen, we've reached cruising altitude and will be turning down the cabin lights. This is for your comfort and to enhance the appearance of your flight attendants.'

On landing the hostess said, 'Please be sure to take all your belongings. If you're going to leave anything, please make sure it's something we'd like to have.'

'There may be 50 ways to leave your lover, but there are only 4 ways to leave the aircraft.'

As the plane landed and was coming to a stop at Auckland , a lone Voice came over the loudspeaker: 'Whoa, big fella. WHOA!'

After a particularly rough landing during thunderstorms in Adelaide, a flight attendant on a Qantas flight announced, 'Please take care when opening the overhead compartments because, after a landing like that, sure as f*** everything has shifted.'

From a Qantas employee: 'Welcome aboard Qantas Flight X to Y to operate your seat belt, insert the metal tab into the buckle, and pull tight. It works just like every other seat belt; and, if you don't know how to operate one, you probably shouldn't be out in public un-supervised.'

'In the event of a sudden loss of cabin pressure, masks will descend from the ceiling. Stop screaming, grab the mask, and pull it over your face. If you have a small child travelling with you, secure your mask before assisting with theirs. If you are travelling with more than one small child, pick your favourite.

'Weather at our destination is 32 degrees with some broken clouds, but we'll try to have them fixed before we arrive. Thank you, and remember, nobody loves you, or your money, more than Qantas Airlines.'

'Your seat cushions can be used for flotation; and in the event of an emergency water landing, please paddle to shore and take them with our compliments.'

Heard on Qantas Airlines just after a very hard landing in Hobart . The flight attendant came on the intercom and said, 'That was quite bump and I know what you are all thinking. I'm here to tell you it wasn't the airline's fault, it wasn't the pilot's fault, it wasn't the flight attendant's fault... it was the asphalt!'

Another flight attendant's comment on a less than perfect landing: 'We ask you to please remain seated as Captain Kangaroo bounces us to the terminal.'

An airline pilot wrote that on this particular flight he had hammered his ship into the runway really hard. The airline had a policy which required the first officer to stand at the door while the passengers exited, smile, and give them a 'Thanks for flying United. 'He said that, in light of his bad landing, he had a hard time looking the passengers in the eye, thinking that someone would have a smart comment. Finally everyone had got off except for an old lady walking with a cane. She said, 'Sonny, mind if I ask you a question?' 'Why no Ma'am,' said the pilot. 'What is it?'
The little old lady said, 'Did we land or were we shot down?'

After a real crusher of a landing in Sydney , the Flight Attendant came on with, 'Ladies and Gentlemen, please remain in your seats until Captain Crash and the Crew have brought the aircraft to a screeching halt against the gate. And, once the tire smoke has cleared and the warning bells are silenced, we'll open the door and you can pick your way through the wreckage to the terminal.'

Part of a flight attendant's arrival announcement: 'We'd like to thank you folks for flying with us today. And, the next time you get the insane urge to go blasting through the skies in a pressurised metal tube, we hope you'll think of Qantas.'

A plane was taking off from Mascot Airport . After it reached a comfortable cruising altitude, the captain made an announcement over the intercom, 'Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. Welcome to Flight Number XYZ, non-stop from Sydney to Auckland . The weather ahead is good and, therefore, we should have smooth and uneventful flight. Now sit back and relax - ARGHHH! OH, MY GOD!' Silence followed and after a few minutes, the captain came back on the intercom and said, 'Ladies and Gentlemen, I am so sorry if I scared you earlier, but, while I was talking, the flight attendant brought me a cup of coffee and spilled the hot coffee in my lap. You should see the front of my pants!'
A passenger in Economy said, 'That's nothing. He should see the back of mine!'

Unit 5

So our 2nd to last unit started here in London. We had class on Saturday and Sunday. The unit is Entrepreneurship. We were split into 3 groups of 7 and our task was to think of a business plan. Our group actually thought of a really good one. I might have to try to convince one or two of them to partner up with me and actually do it!! We'll see how it works.

Other than class its just been working and going to the gym. Tanya and I found some really good workouts that you can download onto your ipod from womens health magazine. They're awesome and not easy in the least! Neither of us could walk most of the week because our muscles were angry with us, but a good angry!

This week is another normal week, but the weekend is abnormal. I have NOTHING to do!!!!!!! I'm soooo excited. I can sleep late, read, go to the gym and maybe even do some shopping (we get paid on Friday, Yay!)

Hope everyone has a good Halloween. Oh yeah, I do have a Halloween party on Thursday. I think Tanya and I are both going to be cats. Its cheap and easy and we both have black clothes already!

MN Kicks Ass!

CNN's Top 100 Places to Live in the USA http://money.cnn.com/magazines/moneymag/bplive/2008/top100/index.html

#1
Plymouth, MN

Plymouth's numerous lakes are a magnet for boaters, water skiers and fishermen.
Top 100 rank: 1
Population: 70,100
Topnotch schools, good jobs, affordable housing, low crime, an active outdoor culture - yep, they're pretty much all here. Plymouth could have become just another Twin Cities suburb, but more than 50,000 jobs keep residents working there.
Home prices are within reason: The typical three-bedroom, two-bath house goes for $350,000. The city's main school district is ranked among the top three in the state, and for culture, Plymouth's open-air amphitheater, the Hilde Performance Center, hosts numerous summer concerts. Residents are a quick drive from the Mall of America, the nation's biggest mall.
And did we mention the outdoors? Plymouth boasts more than half a dozen sizable bodies of water. Of course, this being Minnesota, winter can be brutal: January's average low temperature is about 13°F. But when the mercury plummets, the locals get busy. In February the city hosts a Fire & Ice Festival that includes mini-golf, bowling and basketball - all right on the ice.

#41
Maple Grove, MN

Top 100 rank: 41
Population: 60,500
This northwest suburb of the Twin Cities sits on the edge of a rural area yet is still relatively close to urban life. Residents love the Arbor Lakes area, referred to by community development director Jake Edwards as "a city within a city."
The walkable district is home to lots of retail, service and office buildings. Several sizeable lakes provide fishing and boating, and residents flock to midsummer events like Maple Grove Days as well as frequent farmers

#24 Apple Valley, MN

#26 Lakeville, MN

#40 Eden Prairie, MN

#43 Burnsville, MN

#70 Rochester, MN

Praise the Lord

Unit 4 is finally over!! I had a 10 minute presentation today and then it was over with! It's a wonderful feeling. It was such an intense course. Now I have a two week break without any classes. Very exciting!

Thats about all that is exciting right now! Nothing else really happened this last week. Just worked and worked on my PowerPoint for the presentation. Now I'm going to read a bit (for enjoyment rather than class!) and then head to bed early because I am exhausted!

Cheers!

Bruge, Belgium

So, for those of you who have seen the movie In Bruge, you will know where I was last weekend. For those of you who haven't, you should really go and rent it!!

Anyways, I took the Eurostar train to Belgium this last weekend. The Eurostar train is very interesting. I am use to the Austria trains where you just run to the trainstation and hop on the train. Unfortunately, this is not the case with the Eurostar. You have to checkin, go through security and passport control, then you have to wait around until you can board. It wasn't as relaxing as I had anticipated. But oh well, it got us to Bruge in one piece!

Bruge is known as the Venice of the north. It's a pretty small city that has a bunch of canals. On Saturday we walked around the city, took a canal cruise (in French though!) and placed our hands on the blood of Jesus (there is a vial in one of the churches). Then we rested at the hostel bar and enjoyed some Belgian beer. Mmm mmm good!! I tried Brugges Zot, Jeffe, and Jupiler. They were all wonderful! Now it's hard to say what's better, German beer or Belgian beer!!

Sunday we woke up and it was raining :( booo. We headed out anyways. We climbed up the 366 steps (I only counted 340!) to the top of the bell town and headed to the chocolate museum. We actaully didn't end up going into the chocolate museum, rather we went to the Brugges Zot brewery and took a tour there! I think it was a better choice!! Oh and we also got some Belgian Waffles. They are soooooo yummy!

And that was about all of my weekend. It was pretty laid back. Had a paper due today and Sunday I have a 10 minute presentation and then another paper due and then I am done with unit 4 (the most intense class so far). Can't wait!!
